Dinosaurs!

Another $2 Tuesday well spent, this time at the Thanksgiving Point dinosaur museum.

Why? Why are we so mean?

Mine! Mine! Mine!

We got this book from the library last week. It is about sharing- a topic we are learning a lot about these days. The main character is an obnoxious little thing who won't share any of her toys with her cousin Clare (hi, cousin Claire!). I think Leah's grasped a few concepts from the book, just the wrong ones.

At the dinosaur museum yesterday, Leah decided to use a line from the book when a bigger kid tried to take her toy dinosaur away; "Mine! Mine! Mine! Let GO!"

... great...

This book is going back to the library today.

Family Pictures

We had our family pictures taken last year from this guy, who I thought did a very nice and professional job. He was supposed to be moving, but I was excited to find out that he is still in town doing business. Check out his website!

Oh Give Me A Home...

We've really been trying to cram these last few weeks of summer with as many adventures as possible. On the agenda last weekend: Antelope Island! It is the largest of the Salt Lake's 10 islands, and has surprisingly sandy beaches and herds of buffaloes roaming free. (And no, I didn't pull that sentence off their website, although it does sound like it.)
We told Leah we were going to the ocean (easier to explain) and she had a great time playing in the salty water and sand. There were people swimming and floating around, but we stuck with ankle-deep water only. Well, except for Leah. She was soaked in about 2 minutes.
Then we drove to the other side of the island, were we saw a huge herd of "buffa-wo's". They were pretty impressive! Don't worry- this one's fake.Eep! Buffalo crossing!

$2 Tuesdays

Thanksgiving Point is offering $2 Tuesdays in August, and I've been itching to go to the gardens all summer. It was worth the wait- the weather was perfect and the company was wonderful! We could have spent the whole day there looking and stuff like this.

This was Leah's favorite part, by far. The children's garden has a huge ark fountain that kids can play in, complete with giraffes, lions, and rhinos. She is obsessed with Noah's ark right now, and what kid doesn't love splashing in water on a hot day?

Boating!

We went boating this weekend with our sweet friends and had a blast! Jason and Matt were crazy on the tube, I surprised even myself with my level of sissiness, and Leah loved every minute of it. We even dragged her behind the boat in the tube for a few minutes!
Kind of a silly pictures, but good to have BFF's together again!

Crazies #1 and #2
We were mostly interested in getting a little sun and catching up...

Another Reason I Love Having a Girl

I get to make frilly, pink, pint-sized aprons!
Just like Mom's...
Disclaimer: I can't take credit for my apron- it was made by my extremely talented Grandma. I just used it as a template for Leah's!

Toddler Talk

I've realized that Leah has a lot of phrases that make perfect sense to me, but mean nothing to anyone else...

*mallow-nack (marshmallow snack)

*rowly-roly (ravioli)

*secret-shhh (seahorse, thanks to a recent library book called Secret Seahorse)

*star-face (any star, but mainly a toy that sits on her highchair whom we have named Mr. Star Face)
.
She also has no social filter, and lately I've been embarrassed more than once as she's pointed to the next person in line or someone walking past us and she yells out, "What's this?"....We're working on whispering...

Hogle Zoo 2008

We took our annual trip up to the Hogle Zoo yesterday, and it was a lot of fun (at least compared to last year, where Leah was equally impressed by a trip to the zoo and a trip to the laundry mat). She named most of the animals (including the sounds they make), asked "What's this?" approximately 346 times, and had a good long nap on the way home.

Understandably, Leah had little interest in the camera.

The learning face really set in once we got on the train.
Here's the link to last year's trip- quite a difference!

The Singles Ward

Jason was recently called to be in the bishopric of a singles ward. Anyone who is in or has been in our ward (or any ward, for that matter) knows that this isn't exactly a desirable calling.

I'm mean, wait a minute! Weren't we just in the singles ward? Now we're Brother and Sister Morales? The stake presidency has referred to us as an example to "these young adults"... temple marriage, happy relationship, cute little baby... no pressure!

This is definitely a change of pace from what we're used to, but given the flyer from the first group FHE we went to last night, I think these 'youngins' might get us afterall.

Down The Drain

Leah has shown an interest over the last few months in what goes on in the bathroom.

Today, while I was in there, she started saying "Bathroom, Mommy! Toilet!" I gave her a chance to sit on the toilet, which is huge compared to her little self, to no avail. Just as I expected. Then, as soon as I put her diaper back on, she pooped!

I decided it was time to get a potty.

So we made a trip to the store, picked out the perfect one, and headed home with no expectations of using it for it's intended purpose for at least another 6 months.

But after a little while of this

we got a little bit of this!
I'm just so proud!

Still no expectations of actually potty training any time soon, but it's a start! At least Leah has somewhere to sit now without the fear of falling in!
