Getting There

We were all very excited about finally getting in the car and driving on the long, long road that would take us to Colorado and Utah.  We stopped to visit the Davis family (some Indiana friends who have graduated and moved on) and somehow did not take a picture, but really appreciated the fantastic spread they laid out for us for lunch.  I was SO sick of fast food and car snacks by the time we pulled back into our driveway last week.  It was nice to start the trip off with one more homemade meal.

We spent the first night in a hotel in Des Moines and had a great time running around the room, sharing the joy of the ice maker! and the mini fridge! and the pull out couch!  By the time we had swam in the pool, eaten pizza, bathed,  played "Go Baby Chimp" and jumped on the couch, our car wiggles were sufficiently worked out and we all had a good night's sleep.  I think Emma especially enjoyed the king sized bed.
The highlight of the second day was the Winter Quarters Temple in Nebraska.
It is a beautiful temple and memorial to all of the saints that walked across America to find religious freedom.
One look at the hand cart we could have been pulling across the plains and I was happy to get back in the car.
A few more hours and stops later and we were in Denver!  Ahh, the mountains, the familiarly, the family.  It felt good to get out the car and great to be heading home.
