We always make a summer bucket list of all the hopes and dreams we aim to accomplish in the 99 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
It's a great way to tick off our "accomplishments" during the lazy days of summer.
Our summer days are equally filled with days (hours? minutes?) of something to do and nothing at all.
Most days include piles of library books, consistent naptime, trips to the pool, brunches and linners, rediscovering favorite old games and puzzles, lemonade stands,
so many popsicles, building blanket forts so we can stay inside and umbrella forts so we can stay outside, bike rides, late nights, and even later mornings.... all the things summer requires.
We've done a few science experiments- growing orbeez is always fun, growing soap clouds was NOT worth the mess).
A $2 pad of waitress order pads kept the kids busy setting up and dining at Reggie's Romantic Restaurant for an entire afternoon.
We're at the pool whenever we can find a spare hour or two,
and we've had a few encounters with nature. Some friends gave us a ziploc bag full of tadpoles that we diligently fed spinach and fish food and watched transform into tiny little frogs in a bucket on our deck before they all mysteriously disappeared,
and in addition to our usual robins under the deck and finches in the ferns, we discovered another master finch nest built seamlessly into the top of the magnolia wreath on the front door.
Later that same day one of the eggs hatched, and just a few days later the entire contents of the nest- birds, feathers, and shells- were gone. Mama finch has stopped coming around and we're left wondering what happened to this cute little family.
Emma attended Safety Town last week
a feat that required the small bribe of donuts all around at the end of the week. She did a great job though, and now she's all ready to attend kindergarten as safely as possible.
Boy howdy it seems like much more than two years ago that Adam was my incoming kindergartner.
All in all, we're off to a great start to summer!
