Hooray! Emma's big day finally came! We have a rule in our family that no one is allowed to monopolize aaaalllll of the conversations about their grand birthday plans for more than two weeks before their actual big day, in large part because that's all the time that Emma gets after Adam's birthday to start planning hers! And this year she had some great plans indeed! Starting with breakfast in bed (orange rolls, of course!) then a full day of besties time!
Little Leah came out to spend the day with Emma and they had so! much! fun! together, starting with a treasure hunt that took them all over the house and the yard- notes written by me, stashed by Adam.
Then there was a fancy sunroom tea party, during with the girls loved ringing the bird bell to summon the delightfully eager boys to fulfill their every wish. They were all so cute!
And then on to some presents,
and down to the meadow for some painting with water colors.
These three artists stayed out here for a long time working on their masterpieces!
Emma drew then painted a wishing well in an enchanted forest.
It was the best day ever! Emma has been completely miserable without Little Leah just down the street and any time spent together is balm to her soul.
To continue the celebrations we headed over to Emma's new favorite restaurant The Cheesecake Factory. It is always such a delight to get to share a meal one-on-one with this little cutie!
She knew just what she wanted and we had a great visit, just the three of us!
And then we headed back home for some more presents!!
She was just a little excited.
It is so hard to wait all year long for your big day! But totally worth it when it finally gets here, full of fun and love and suprises!
And cake! Emma didn't want to eat cake while Little Leah was here because she doesn't like frosting, so we enjoyed it just the six of us later in the evening.
Look at all of these beautiful babies. What a lucky family we are!
It looks like Emma definitely had some big nine-year-old wishes in mind!
And I hope they all come true!
We had an awesome day celebrating Emma, and the celebrations continued days later with the crazy crepe paper tentacles!
Emma Grace! You beautiful little blue-eyed beauty, you bring so much spice and life to our family!

and Toy Story toys
and wrap up in snuggly blankets and wear sweatpants when it's 90 degrees outside. She's still a little more concerned about how her clothes feel than how they look! Still she's curious about all things girly- from mascara and eye liner to just how fancy she can make her lovely long fingernails- both of my girls have long beautiful nails that they love to intricately paint- they did not get that from me!
Emma is still the first place most social member of our family! She is eager to meet new friends and if it wasn't for the all or nothing option we've been given for school, she would be the first one to march onto the school bus and into the classroom to make some new friends!
Emma can be a little bossy- but that also means she's assertive, focused, fearless, and honest! She'll make a great leader and a mom some day and she will know just how to keep her family in line- she's always aware of the way things should be and what is fair and how to keep things equal.
Emma is also the most thoughtful little lady- she has great ideas on how to comfort people when they're sad and always wants to help however she can. She how she fixed me up when I had a headache?
She is the best big sister! She has a special soft voice that she uses for her little brother that helps him know just how much she loves him.
And she loves Laney so much, even though she's decided that Laney doesn't love her. She never stops trying, and Laney loves to play hide-and-seek with Emma more than anyone else in our family. Emma also loves to shepherd Laney along and make sure that she's not getting into mischief- Emma says Laney is like the little sister she never had!
Emma loves to paint, to play her ukulele, to scooter, and to play! She's all about playing these days, and I also think she's going to be thrilled to get back into the habit of school. Really! She loves learning and having teachers and other adults to connect with and those adults often comment to me that she is just a delight to chat with.
And boy does she love to make us laugh. She's always up to something silly- she called these her cicada babies.
Emma is just as fearless as ever. Is it any surprise that she was the first one to march down into the beach that we aren't supposed to go to because we don't live in this neighborhood? No surprise at all! She understands rules and respects them, but she's not against having a little fun too.
