I want to give this monumental year all of the space and honor on the blog that it deserves, but the summer weeks are quickly slipping by! With late nights, lazy days and late mornings we are all starting to forget just how hard we worked to get to the end of this unforgettable school year!
Adam spent 95% of his school year at the LEGO desk, for all of his meetings, all of his classwork, puppy show-and-tell, and even his band lessons. He's showing promise with the trumpet, and his band teacher said he was top 4 of all the students he taught this year. I encouraged Adam to think of what he could accomplish if he practiced outside of lessons!
All smiles on the last day of school- and lots of cleaning up to do, too!
Leah missed out of most of our family mornings, but the trade off was a little bit of one-on-one time with Mom and Dad every day.
Food class fail- know Leah knows you have to stir the noodles once you pour water over them.
Just some mid-morning yoga, because she can!
Emma spent most of her year at the "book nook", so called because we had plans to rip it out and replace it with a reading corner, but boy was it nice to have one more dedicated desk this year.
Emma worked so hard on her first novel, "The Jungle" this year. If we don't get it officially printed out I'll have to be sure to post it out here. It's a great adventure!
She wasn't quite ready for the last day of school after all!
Noah spent most of his school year at the kitchen table, almost always with the pup nearby. He even got to show off her tricks at the last day of school talent show!
One of my very favorite parts of online school was the ability for the kids to help each other out with their schoolwork. Access to the wisdom of others- and their love and encouragement too- is priceless!
And, of course I took mid-day snuggles whenever I could get them! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself, my pup and my empty house in the fall.
Last day of school breakfast! (minus Leah, because she was already in class)
Here she is! No shoes, basically in pajamas because she could. No shoes for anyone!
But lots of smiles about finally reaching this highly-anticipated day!
We celebrated the end of the school year all day long! First with Chick-fil-a and ice cream at the arboretum-
she insisted....
We sat on the dock for half an hour watching a blue heron dive for fish, just because we could!
And then we headed home for a bonfire in which we burned all of our school papers. The kids loved it, and I think we've found our new last-day-of-school tradition!
Even Adam, my packrat to beat all packrats, was willing to part with a portion of his papers.
And just like that, we were saying so long to the most unique school year we've ever had. 180 days of working hard, staying focused, and giggling about going to school with no shoes and recess on the trampoline and waking up seven minutes before class started and the joy of being 'home' from school the minute the end of the day bell rang.
Everyone is excited to go back to in-person school in the fall, but I know we'll never forget our year of homeschooling! We proved that Moraleses really can do hard things!
