The first Sunday after Labor Day is Grandparents Day. We were excited to celebrate today- we love our grandmas and grandpas so much. I have lots of happy memories about my grandparents, and told the kids tonight about the makeshift playhouse that my Grandma and Grandpa Gardner made for us when we moved to Alabama (the second time)- complete with curtains, a table and chairs. I told them about the amazing playhouse they had in their backyard and all the fun we used to have in it, except for the time that my big brother and one of our cousins locked us girls into it- with a bee inside! Jason told stories about the nights he and his mom and sisters used to spend at Grandma Miller's house while his dad was working. For our Family Home Evening activity last week, we played tug-of-war and bounce the toys- and the kids- out of the bedsheet- a game we used to play at my Grandma and Grandpa Henscheid's house with a huge parachute. And it is always fun to talk about the things the kids love about their grandparents now- who is a tricker and who sends packages and who brings presents, who tells good stories and funny jokes and who makes the tastiest treats.
I helped Adam and Leah learn a silly little poem about grandparents, which they recited via Facetime and Skype.
They both had the poem down pat, but performing for an audience is always an intimidating thing. They went separately and both did a great job.

And, of course, Miss Emma needed some camera time, too. She shook the poem around and then blew a few kisses at the end.
Leah also drew a portrait of each of the grandparents- boys on one side-
and girls on the other.
We love our grandmas and grandpas so much. We would have loved to deliver the poem in person, but this was a fun way to invite them into our homes, even from so far away. I would like to make this an annual tradition, and hopefully one day move on to poems that don't revolve quite so much around junk food!
