I'm not sure how it's possible that Emma is 8 already, but she had an amazing birthday this year! She requested breakfast in bed- with orange rolls, of course!
And then it was time to get ready to party!
She wanted a Barbie fashion masked ball party, which the girls had a lot of fun getting ready for.
And I had fun making a Barbie cake with the help of the master- Grandma was here!
She turned out quite lovely.
Emma had a big party last year, and this year she decided she only wanted to invite a few of her best friends. Of the four she invited only two were able to come, but Emma still declared it the "best birthday party ever!!", and that makes it a success!
It was basically a playdate with some cake, games, and gifts thrown in, and the girls had a great time!

Our sweet Emma Grace is absolutely one of a kind. She is so funny, so silly, and so energetic. Her highs are high and her lows are low. She is still the most confident of our kids, never pausing to be afraid of new situations or meeting new people.
She feels compassion for people that are lonely or hurting and she take such good care of her little brother and her littler classmates and her little puppy (sometimes a bit more than Laney is interested in being cared for).
I often get remarks from adults about how comfortable (while still respectful) she is talking to adults. She has sweet manners and a winning smile and people just like her. We like her a whole lot too!
She loves art and working with clay and got to do a class at the art center this summer. She has loved playing softball this fall and has a really good swing! She isn't interested in dance or acting, but she does plenty of both at home. She loves to sing and has a beautiful voice and likes to make up silly songs about her scabs and Mommy tucking her in at night.
She love love loves her big sister, and I try to help understand that being the little sister means that there is no way Emma will ever catch up to Leah in age, but she can still enjoy every stage she's at while she's there! Being eight is all about loose teeth and best friends and trying new things and getting baptized, and that is awesome!

We took her out for her birthday dinner after our visitors were all gone and had such a fun time chatting with her and listening to her talk about her friends and her family and her summer fun and her school year fears, and, yes, having the traditional birthday talk about the birds and the bees.
She had plenty of questions about how exactly everything works, and we were happy to answer them. She was equally interested in the conversation and the many flavors of syrup at IHOP.
I love the birthday dinner tradition- it was so fun celebrating our sweet girl!
