Noah had a birthday in October! Really, it was a celebrate Noah week! He opted to go to school on his birthday (he always has the option to skip, since he is the only kid who has a birthday in our family during the school year), and I happened to be subbing as a secretary that day, which includes a few hours in the cafeteria!
He left for the bathroom, and when he came back, the entire 6th grade erupted into LOUD screaming and cheering and clapping for the birthday boy! He liked the surprise about as much as a kid who hates loud noises could be expected to. It was memorable for sure!
Ice cream birthday cake!
Dinner at The Chicken, complete with the traditional LEGO set to assemble while unsuccessfully avoiding the annual talk.
A fancy birthday breakfast on the weekend so we could all fully enjoy it rather than rush off to school.
And an epic birthday party!
Noah really deliberated about the kind of party he wanted to have- school friends, church friends, family- in the end, we did all three!
Adam, Grace, and Emma joined in the fun!
The father and I supervised while the kids played the night away.
It was such a fun night!
Noah is 12! He is my baby, and there will never be any way around that. He will always be the last to experience things, from surpassing me in height to getting those first zits to finishing up elementary school and getting braces. There is extra sweetness in Noah's spot as the baby of the family that I am really soaking up. He's my baby! But boy does he not prefer to think of himself that way. He's sure that he's taller than me by now- I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Noah! Our best boy! You are such a good friend to everyone who knows you; you are a caring brother and a kind son, and a deep thinker who cares about growing your testimony and enlarging your brain. You say the longest evening (personal) prayers I've ever seen, you are so quick to laugh, and you love mind-bending thoughts like "why do we have fingertips and toes but we tiptoe and don't finger toe?" (or something like that). You are thoughtful and helpful- especially with Sunday breakfasts and taking Laney outside. This is a secret just for the blog, but sometimes Noah still likes to sleep in my bed when the father is out of town. And I love it!
Noah has been teaching Emma chess, has started private double bass lessons, and is doing his best to keep his schedule as full as possible with school orchestra, DSM orchestra, archery, GT, band, chorus, comics, LEGO, temple time, Spanish study, and so much reading. Noah is really looking forward to middle school, for the chance to expand his friend groups, and to get involved in show choir and drama and more!
When did this silly picking up tradition even start? Birthday pictures are always a little chaotic.
Happy 12th birthday, Noah! You are such a great friend, a sweet boy, and an important member of our family! We love you so much!
