Halloween Overload

Recipe for a perfect Halloween:

Step 1. Attend the Annual Halloweenie Roast.
It's a tradition!

Step 2. Gather your pumpkins.  Carve them, against some protests.  Use pumpkin seeds to accessorize.
Declare them the best jack-o-lanterns ever and point them out every time you drive in and out of the driveway for the next week.

Step 3. Make all meals Halloween themed.  Somehow this exponentially magnifies the fun of the holiday.

Step 4.  Games!  Play lots of games.  Spooky Memory, bobbing for apples, hide-and-seek puzzle pieces  and the very best game of all- donuts on a string.

Laugh especially loud as donuts whack small faces.

Declare Leah the donut-eating champion.  Adam receives an honorable mention because he did not yell at his baby sister when she disqualified him by yanking his donut off it's string.

Step 5.  It's finally time to get into costumes!
Convince the kids that yes, it is cold enough outside that they have to wear coats, and wonder why you can't remember to build their costumes around extra layers of warmth.  Noted for next year.

Step 6.  It's finally time to go trick-or-treating!
Have the most fun you can ever remember (even as a child) running around the neighborhood with your kids.  Giggle along with them as they meet up with friends from kindergarten and the bus.  Laugh as their "Trick-or-Treat!!!!" screams get louder and louder as they realize that that will earn them more candy.  Take turns carrying the little ones when their legs are too tired and their bags are too heavy to go any further.

Step 7. Check out that loot!
Enjoy watching the sorting, swapping, and stuffing.  Just as your father did growing up, take your parent tax.  Secretly stash away half of everyone's piles after they have gone to bed so they will be pleasantly shocked when you pull it out on the next road trip/movie night/rainy day.

Step 8.  Call Grandma Cathy.  It is her birthday, after all!

Step 9. Marvel that the baby on the left is not Emma.
It's 10-month-old Leah- Halloween 2007.

Step 10.  Smile!

You made it through another Halloween, and your favorite holidays are just a few weeks away!
