FHE Check-In- A New Year!

We are shaking things up for the new year.  The burden and joy of Family Home Evening is going to be evenly distributed between all members of our family now thanks to this handy little assignment wheel that I got from a friend a few years ago and finally put together this morning.

We've decided that our kids are old enough to really participate in FHE.  Instead of one person carrying the responsibility of presenting the theme of the night/month and it's coordinating song, lesson, activity and treat (cough cough- Mom or Dad- cough cough), each person in our family will be responsible for one portion of the night.

Our goal this year is to make FHE a little more relaxed, a little less stressful, and a lot more fun!  We told the kids they could choose whatever they wanted for their assignment for the night and gave them a few resources for lessons and ideas of activities and treats (hide and seek!  board games!  Cocoa Puffs!  Ice cream sundaes!)... within reason.  They seem very much on board.

The first night was a hit- Leah gave the prayer, Jason gave a simple lesson on the Restoration, Adam was thrilled to be in charge of the activity (Wii Sports Resort), and Emma and I worked together to make her treat- a very last minute creation of chocolate-drizzled pretzels, which the kids loved.  Leah begged me for the recipe and Adam declared, "Deese treats are just delectable."

I counted the night a success when Adam started crying, "I just want to do more Homely Home Evening!"  Let's hope this level of excitement keeps up all year!
