Scripture Pictionary

As Latter-day Saints, we have become accustomed to thinking of 'church' as something that happens in our meetinghouses, supported by what happens at home.  We need an adjustment to this pattern.  It is time for a home-centered Church, supported by what takes place inside our church buildings.

This is a historic proclamation.  A generation ago, church was an all-day affair, with sacrament meeting separated from Sunday school which was separated from Relief Society and Priesthood meetings.  Jason and I grew up with the three hour block, and we started our family in that pattern as well.  We wore the three-hour block as a badge of honor.  But with little kids it was difficult; no matter the hour it started, church always interfered with naptime.  Now we're past that stage and I can appreciate how the three-hour block really helped us stay focused on keeping the entire Sabbath day holy.

Now, starting in January church is going to be a two-hour block, and it comes with a heavy responsibility placed squarely on our shoulders.  It's exciting and overwhelming at the same time.  We have a lot of figuring out to do about what this new level of gospel learning in our home is going to look like.  But if it's anything like today, I think we're going to have a great time.

These babies of ours have sweet and good testimonies, and I'm excited to see them grow as our family increases our focus on the scriptures and gospel learning at home.
