These sweet babies learned to love playing card games in airports when we were in Brazil. I'm glad Adam remembered to pack a deck!
Not pictured- the crazy Minneapolis airport (we may be tiny but we are spoiled with light crowds in DSM), Daddy's labyrinth parking adventure (we're also spoiled with cheap parking in DSM- we paid 6x for parking than we would have paid in DSM), the three Delta counter attendants who tried to get our suitcases onto the flight without charging us three times, the slowly inching line up to security, the cheers we let out when the gate attendant figured out how to get us all on the same row rather than all sitting alone like we were originally assigned, or the long line of planes we waited in to get our wings de-iced. We are happy to forget the agony of travel. All that's pictured is these happy faces- we made it on a plane to Mexico!
And, huge bonus, we only had to take one flight each way. Thanks to the added hours in the car, our layover was complete and this would be much easier on the ears. We had time to watch two movies on the way there and back. The girl row indulged in all things girly while the boys played lots of games.
Real feel negative 30! Could we have picked a better time to escape Iowa?
Real feel 89 was much, much better! Also not pictured would be the inching line at immigration, where Noah the fermata was born. Being the shortest member of the crew (for now), Noah needed to be the dot in the middle of our family fermata at all times. This was no time for getting lost!
After another hour drive, with so many speed bumps along the way, we finally made it to our resort!!
Our hotel, the Riu Yucatan, was right on the beach, and we all wanted to go right down to the water to check it out. But first, dinner.
Did someone say all you can eat??
We tried all the foods!
Then down to the water we went! The pools all closed at 8 PM every night, disappointing for us but actually quite nice that they encouraged a quiet evening vibe at the resort.
We were heading for the beach anyway.
We just had no idea what it looked like. The water could have been murky brown for all we knew, but the kids were still happy to put their feet in it and have some mid-winter beach fun!
The first of many, many fruity drinks.
Then back to our rooms we went! Girls in one room, boys in another, and we were about as close as could be without being in connected rooms. That ended up being fine- the boys came and picked us up for a date every evening! And these cute towel creatures were on our beds every night.
There was a bed for everyone, nice heavy curtains, cool tile floors and a veranda to step out on every morning. And we were ready for sleep!
