Snow Day!

Ahh those magical words that bring such possibilities and excitement- it's a snow day!!
We actually knew Tuesday would be a snow day before we went to bed on Monday night, but the excitement of just how much snow we would get overnight was enough to shake this little boy out of bed first thing in the morning.
Little pups, not so much.
And the answer was- a LOT of snow!!
Our poor mailbox got in the path of a snowplow, but to be honest I never liked that mailbox in the first place.  This one will have to be replaced.
The snow drifts in the backyard were too high and still rising so Daddy shoveled out a little patch of grass for Laney on the edge of the driveway that we quickly dubbed The Throne.
She tried her little puppy hardest to keep up with us, and did a great job of hopping through the snowdrifts.
But she still had to go inside before everyone else.  Sorry pup!
She pretty much stayed here in front of the fire for the rest of the day.
But the rest of us had loads of fun outside- the effort to get everyone sufficiently bundled up and out the door continues to decrease as the years go by- Noah made me laugh when he made sure to stop and use the bathroom before gearing up. Those years of hours of bundling up for minutes of snow play are definitely behind us. Now it's minutes of bundling up for hours of snow fun!
Exploring newly created hidden forts-
Climbing up this sad fallen tree-
It died last year and Mother Nature did the work of knocking it over for us.  We'll do the work of cutting it up and burning it in the spring.
My very favorite crew!! Holy smokes is there any way to adequately describe how much fun these four are?  They're so cute and living their best lives together, I'm just lucky enough to get to witness their adventures.
Adam's preferred method of playing in the snow this year-
So much colder than the corn pool but definitely the same vibes!
Emma gave me a tour of her new snow mansion-
Leah lived in a snow shut-
We found another broken tree blocking our path-
This is the smile of a boy who love, love, loves the snow!! He's been waiting all year for this day.
A zen moment on the friendship bridge-
Where we live is always magical, but the snow puts it over the top- Leah said it looks like Narnia.
Hobbes Crk Hill is just as crazy as ever!!
And that's about when I headed back inside to make hot cocoa, soup, and bread and start the delightful process of warming up the house and defrosting my four little frozen snow bunnies.
Today we are back at school- finals for Leah and just a few days of work for the rest of us before another snow storm is set to hit- hopefully not before we get out of Iowa and head south for a bit of this winter!
