1,000th Post

A pause in the normal blogging schedule to announce- this is my 1,000th post!

Wow- that seems so huge.  This blog has been my other baby since the day it was created back in 2006, just a few days before my first baby was born.  Jason was hoping we could unveil the details of our new home in this post, I would have liked to announce something big (a new baby! a finished thesis! a sudden windfall of chocolates and money delivered to our house!) but since none of those things are happening right now, I thought I'd answer the 5 W's (plus a few extras) of blogging instead.  How exciting, I know.  Call it my testimony of blogging.

Who do I blog for?  Myself, mainly.  My kids, to enjoy some day.  Their grandparents, because they love the pictures of the kids so much.  Occasionally I blog for the support of my fellow mommy-bloggers that I know are reading my posts, just to get a reminder that I'm not going through some of these experiences alone.

What is my favorite part about blogging?  Recording all of the tiny moments of life and getting to look back on them.  I have a horrible memory, and this blog has been a fantastic way to help myself remember some of the highlights of life.  The comments from family and friends- understanding, encouraging, uplifting comments- are a nice perk, too.

When do I expect to stop blogging?  Given that our kids are still young and adorable and full of funny daily -isms, it's easy to think that I'll keep blogging for a while.  We're (hopefully) not done adding to our family, and those milestones are definitely ones that I'll want to have a record of.

Where do I blog from?  My good old desktop, on the same computer I've been using since I started (yes, I think it's time for an upgrade, too).  I usually look like this-

because I do 99.9% of my blogging in the evenings- the kids have been tucked into bed, the house has been cleaned up and Jason is back to work.  I started blogging a week before Leah was born in Utah.  Now we live in Indiana.  We're on our way to Iowa.  So, I guess I'm blogging from across the USA.

Why do I blog so religiously and have absolutely zero presence anywhere else on the internet (ie, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)?  My blog is our family history.  A treasure of memories that we will enjoy for years to come (at least, I sure hope so).   This blog is our family history above all else.  I may not create baby books, scrapbooks, Christmas cards or newsletters, but blogging I can do.  Sometimes I just need a place to put the simple moments of life, other times I need a place to empty my mind and share the feelings of my heart.  To me, this blog has incredible value.

Will I go private?  I don't want to, but, like most bloggers, I get a little uncomfortable when I think about how much I am sharing with the world, often without knowing who I am sharing it with.  I feel like "Private" is the place where blogs go to die, but since I'm not in it for the comments (too much) I guess going private wouldn't be the worst thing for my little corner of the internet.

How many-

Top viewed post of all time- Emma's birth (not surprisingly- who isn't curious about how a baby is born in a car?!), followed closely by the details of Adam's bike accident, and the several posts highlighting our dream Disney trip (which I'm still not done blogging about!)
Favorite post of all time- Hmmm... too many to choose from (999 others, to be exact!).  I think my favorite post is any one that makes me smile on an otherwise difficult day, usually because they remind me that things will get better or could be much worse!  I do really love the Life BC series (still so much to post in that one, too!) and any post that projects the future incorrectly... those are fun to look back on.

What does the future hold for this blog?  Lots of adventures, lots of memories and lots of stories to share.  Lessons learned, laughter shared, and lots of love.  I'm guessing it will take me twice as long to create the same number of posts over again, just because life is getting busier and busier as time goes by.

And what have I learned from blogging?  That no moment is too small to record if it makes you happy, because it will make you happy again remembering it another day.  That I don't want to keep up with the Joneses or that other blogger-mom whose writing has a way of sounding just so perfect or whose pictures are just so beautiful (and in focus, darn this new camera!).  That I just want to be me, that we are just us.  That we are blessed beyond belief, and that life is just so good.

Wow! I saw the words "new baby" and thought something else was "up"! Well, the 1000th post is pretty cool too. You do so well keeping up on your blog - your kids will be so glad to have all these memories to look back on!
