One Perfect Summer Day

"Have you been to Ledges??"  YES!  We finally squeezed in one really perfect day at Ledges and for as much as we love to rag on Ledges as being the only place locals believe you can enjoy nature in Iowa, we had such a fun day.  It was equal parts new adventures and a perfect walk down memory lane. We have lots of happy memories of Ledges!
The road through the park was closed this day, so no cars splashing over the bridges and soaking us but also, no cars in sight at all!  It made for a delightful time in the creek.
There were beautiful tiny flowers by the creek that Adam offered to weave into the girls hair.  He is such good boyfriend material- loves to hold hands, always jumps up to help, and has always enjoyed brushing his sister's hair and now, adorning it!
They gave him some hair flowers too.
Noah and Emma built an entire sand island!
The dream has come true! Adam finally caught a fish in a baggie- a goal that we made with the Tolberts years ago and finally realized this summer!
Everyone caught a bunch of fish and then dumped them out, over and over again.
Ah Ledges, we love to make fun of it but it is an absolutely beautiful place.  The first summer that we lived here Jason sent me some pictures of his solo adventure to Ledges while the rest of us were in Utah and I couldn't believe that he was actually in Iowa.
One of our happiest Iowa places.
Leah started double daily color guard practice in August (so she was extra tired) and Emma was happy to be her companion in the car, so the boys and I headed out for our second traditional stop- Lost Lake. We actually only hiked to the first lookout this time around.
My handsome hiking companions!
We finished the hike in about 12 minutes (our longer legs continue to alter my understanding of size and distance over the years) and then we hopped back in the car to finally finish our summer podcast series Mars Patel on our way to first Culvers and then to get our favorite summer ice cream at Heavenly Delites!  We have been here so many times but my blog search is failing me to find a days-of-yore comparison picture.
The googly eyes are the best part!
All I know is that these babies keep growing and growing! And while I miss the old days when we had all the time and nothing to do but explore Ledges or have a double pool day or skip out of school early so that we could spend more hours at Center Grove Orchard or go on family field trips to the youth theater matinee, I can hardly complain about all of the wonderful activities and adventures that each of them are involved in now.  It's a different season but an equally as happy one!
