Adam, Noah and I got to spend an extra measure of fun together this summer. While Emma was in Utah and Daddy and Leah were at work, we went on some adventures!
Look at those rows of green corn! Laney was an eager navigator.
In a fair reminder that Google Maps doesn't always know best (we ended up driving down a dirt road past a wastewater treatment plant right up to the wrong side of the locked gate into the castle park), we finally ended up in this magical place!
Located in the famed Madison County (of the covered bridges variety), we visited here years ago and haven't made the trip back since we moved closer. The views were just as lovely as we remembered.
Not quite!
The boys played a few rounds of hide and seek
before trying a variety of trick shots with balls and paper airplanes. Adam managed to throw a tennis ball through one of those tiny top slots!
There was an ice cream shop nearby that we checked out after our adventure.
It was quintessential small town Iowa- busy and tasty and gave us a good chance to talk about how you can spot a real cowboy (check to see how muddy his boots are).
Laney was living her best shaggy dog life this day.
There were lots of board games and LEGO games played in the cool of the toy room this summer.
On Adam's birthday, the three of us loaded up our bikes and headed over to our favorite bike path- Raccoon River.
Noah declared that this was the year that he finally started loving bike riding. Thank goodness! Bike riding is one of the basic joys of life, and I'm so glad he agrees with me now! I think upgrading to a much bigger, more appropriately sized bike helped quite a bit.
We discovered a few great geocaches on this ride.
Noah likes to go back and check on this one every time we're on this ride now.
And after our bike ride, because it was Adam's birthday- Chick-fil-a for lunch!
Another day we packed up a picnic lunch and headed over to a nearby trail- Walnut Woods.
The walnut trees were huge!
And quite jumpable too.
The trail was beautiful, well marked, and as steep as anything we're going to find close to home.
This was a perfect fresh air and sunshine kind of adventure (minus the dead cat that we happened upon).
Most of all, it was a treat for me to get to watch these two brothers enjoy an afternoon together. I hope they are always such good friends as they were this summer.
