Mexico! Day One

From the icy cold of Iowa, I got this text from Jason- "Come join me!"
So I boarded a plane, leaving my babies behind in the middle of the night (which is never easy to do but especially difficult when one wakes up in the middle of the night throwing up, two others wake themselves up at 3:45 AM to say good-bye one more time, and the last one blissfully sleeps on), and left the country for the first time in my life.

The views were amazing, and definitely different from the Rocky Mountains that we usually fly over.
And then, a quick layover and a not-so-quick trip through customs later, we were together!  In Mexico!  Jason has been here every winter for the last 10 years, and I've decided that it's why he is such a mild-mannered, kind person.  He doesn't know what it feels like to endure an entire Midwest winter.
And that view up there was our resort balcony!  We picked a beautiful place to stay that is right on the water.  I loved the tile floors, the sun streaming in, the slippers for people like me that are just always to wear slippers... welcome to paradise!
My hair immediately frizzed, we immediately got some fruity drinks in our hands, and we set out to explore the resort and the town.

Every few steps held another picturesque view.
We ended up on the boardwalk at a fancy restaurant with the best tableside guac I've had in years...
...which prompted an itchy allergic reaction and kept me from enjoying the rest of my meal and most of the native cuisine for the rest of the trip.
The views were amazing though!
As was the entertainment.
After dinner we strolled down the boardwalk and saw all kinds of fun and funny things. Like this corn man!
And this statue man!
And these crazy musicians that were perched on the very top of this pole, playing their instruments and gathering a crowd and suddenly falling backward over the edge and spinning around and around- while still playing the music- until they lowered down to the ground and collected money from all of the awe-struck on-lookers.
And these beautiful cutout flag banners.  I was so excited to see this sad little offering of flags on one street,
but Jason knew where to find the really impressive ones!
And all of the statues and art and people!
All set to the tune of the waves crashing in the background and the perfect 70 degree weather.  This may be the best Valentine's Day we've ever shared, and our 15-year anniversary trip was off to a great start!
