A Secret

Leah pulled my ear down close to her mouth yesterday.  "Mom!" she said, "I have a secret."  And then she whispered-

I am a child of God
and He has sent me here
Has given me an earthly home
with parents kind and dear.

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
to live with Him some day.

It was a very timely reminder.  With all of the foot-stamping, arm-crossing, and screeching that has been going on around here lately, I wonder if I am teaching my children much of anything at all.  I wonder if I just don't know what my kids want.  Don't they want to play with friends, eat home-cooked meals, and read stories before bedtime?  Do they not want clean clothes to wear, a clean house to live in, and parents that have smiles on their faces, give them hugs and say I love you 300 times a day?  Toys to play with?  Fun family outings?  No?!

And if that's not what they want, then what the heck do they want?!

We are trying to give our children what every parent tries to give their child- love, comfort, security.  But days like today, as the kids both cried the entire way home from the pumpkin patch and the dinner I put time and energy into sat cold and untouched on the table, it seems like we just can't get it right.  And, in the words of Leah, "You hurt my feelings, Mom."

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that's a little flabbergasted by my children.

Don't feel too bad, I lost it with kaden yesterday and yelled at him, he told me I was scary, like a monster... Carter sings I am a Child of God in a pretty funny way, I should post it one of these days. You are such a great mom! have a great day!
